Adding Item Tags in Toast
This video walks through Toast's older Edit Menus interface (Advanced Properties), which has a different tagging feature than Menu Manager.
Navigating to the item
From the Toast admin home screen, click Menus in the left sidebar.
On the Menus landing page, under "Bulk management," click Advanced Properties.
This opens Manage Menus, listing your top-level menus (Food, Drinks, Merch, Online Ordering). Click Food.
On the menu details page, under Menu groups, click into the Food group.
In the group's Items list, click the item you want to tag — in this demo, Burger. This opens the full item-edit page.
Adding tags to the item
Scroll down the item page past Calories and Image to the Tags field.
You'll see any tags already applied as removable chips (in this demo: Vegan, Kosher, Vegetarian, Paleo, Dairy Free, Gluten Free, Halal, Spicy, Keto).
To create a brand-new tag: click into the "New tag name…" box, type the name, and click Create Tag. It's immediately added as a chip on the item (demo created one called "New Tag Name").
To apply a tag that already exists elsewhere in the account: click Add Existing Tags. This opens a Select Tags modal with a searchable list of all existing tags and a preview pane. Select the ones you want, then click Done.
Click Save (top right) to save the item.
Suggested Item Tags:
Vegan, Kosher, Vegetarian, Paleo, Dairy Free, Gluten Free, Halal, Spicy, Keto.
You can also reach a dedicated tag-management screen directly: click the search icon in the top nav, type "tags", and select Item Tags from the results.
This opens the Item Tags page, listing every tag in the account along with its Use Count (how many items carry that tag) — e.g., Keto showed a use count of 2. From here you can Add a new tag, reorder tags (Order), or manage each one via its ··· menu.
