Adding allergens to a menu item
From the Toast admin home screen, click Menus in the left sidebar.
On the Menus landing page, under "Menu management," click Menu manager.
In Menu manager (Full menu tab), expand the Food menu group to see the item list.
Click the item you want to edit — in this demo, Burger. This opens the Item details panel on the right.
Scroll down the item details panel past Description, PLU/SKU, and "Does this item contain alcohol?" until you reach the Allergens section (marked BETA).
Click the Select applicable allergens dropdown. This opens a searchable checklist (Almond, Black walnut, Brazil Nut, Cashew, Crustaceans, Egg, Milk, Peanut, Sesame, Soy, Wheat, etc.).
Use the search box or scroll to find the allergen you need, then check its box. In the demo, the item already had Cashew, Egg, and Soy checked, and Wheat was added, bringing the count to "4 Selected." Each checked allergen appears as a removable tag below the dropdown.
Click outside the dropdown to close it, then click Save (bottom of the item details panel).
Click Publish all changes near the top of Menu manager to push the update live. A green "Your edits have been saved" confirmation appears.
Adding allergens to a modifier (e.g., a topping)
Allergens can also be set on individual modifiers, not just the parent item:
Under the Burger item, expand its modifier group — Burger Mods — to see the modifier list (Lettuce, Tomato, Onion).
Click a modifier, e.g., Onion, to open the Edit "Onion" modifier dialog.
This dialog has its own Select applicable allergens field (independent from the parent item's allergens). Click it to open the same searchable checklist.
Scroll/search and check the relevant allergen — in the demo, Milk was checked, showing "1 Selected" and a "Milk" tag.
Click Update to save the modifier's allergen info (the video ends just before this final click, with Update ready to go).
