Why Uber Eats and Grubhub delivery orders show as "Pickup" in Square

Delivery orders from Uber Eats and Grubhub can appear as pickup orders in Square. Here's why, and what it means for your team.

If you use Square POS with Stream, you may notice that some delivery orders show up in Square as Pickup, even though the customer ordered delivery. This is expected. Your orders are not wrong, and nothing is broken.

Why this happens

When Uber Eats or Grubhub delivers the order, their courier collects it from your store. Stream sends these orders to Square as pickup orders, because from your store's point of view a courier is picking the order up.

Orders delivered by your own couriers (for example, DoorDash "Sauce delivery") are sent to Square as delivery orders.

What this means for you

  • The order contents, customer details, pricing and timing are not affected.

  • Your store doesn't need to deliver these orders. The platform's courier collects them.

  • If you need to tell delivery and pickup orders apart, check the order source (Uber Eats, Grubhub, DoorDash) shown on the order in Square. Stream still records these orders as deliveries.
