Updating Dining Options in Toast
This guide walks through reviewing and adding Dining Options in Toast — the labels (Dine In, Take Out, DSP-specific pickup/delivery, etc.) that describe how each order is being served.
Step 1: Open Dining Options settings
From the Toast admin home screen, click Kitchen in the left sidebar.
This opens the Kitchen settings page. Under the Dining options section, click Dining options
Step 2: Review the current list
This opens the Dining Options page, listing every dining option currently configured — by default: Dine In, Take Out, Curbside, and Delivery — along with columns for:
Behavior — the underlying fulfillment behavior this option maps to
Future — whether the option can be used for future (scheduled) orders
Default — which option is auto-selected for new orders
Show on POS — whether the option appears as a button on the POS
Step 3: Add a new dining option
Click + Add. This inserts a new blank row with an empty Name field and Behavior defaulted to None.
Step 4: Name the dining option
Type a clear, descriptive name. This demo added one dining option per DSP and fulfillment type — "GrubHub - Pickup," "GrubHub - Delivery," "DoorDash - Pickup," "DoorDash - Delivery," and "Uber - Pickup" — repeating Step 3 for each.
Step 5: Set the Behavior for each new row
Click the Behavior dropdown for a row. The available options are:
None
Dine In
Takeout
Curbside
Delivery
Drive-thru
In this demo, each "...- Pickup" option was set to Takeout, and each "...- Delivery" option was set to Delivery — this is what determines how the order behaves in the kitchen and reporting, independent of its display name.
Step 6: Save and publish
Click Save (top right). Toast confirms with a green "Dining Option saved successfully. Publish Now." banner. Click Publish Now to push the configuration live.
Once published, the new dining options are available to assign to orders, menus, and reporting.
