What you'll see
Someone on your team is blocked from a task in the Stream dashboard, for example they cannot transfer ownership, upload a photo, change a price or add a team member. You may also have been told that "Admin" and "Owner" are the same thing. They are close, but they are not the same.
Each person in your Stream account has one role. The role decides what that person can change.
What it means
The roles
Owner: can do everything. Each account has one Owner.
Admin: can do everything the Owner can, except hand over ownership.
Manager: runs day-to-day work. A Manager can change item availability, snooze items, edit items, publish menus, set menu and holiday hours, set prep time, pause and resume delivery apps, and manage orders.
Team Member: can publish menus, resync from your POS and move orders to Ready, Out for delivery or Complete. A Team Member cannot pause or resume a delivery app.
Custom roles: an Owner or Admin can create roles with exactly the permissions you choose.
What only an Owner or Admin can do. A Manager cannot upload photos, change prices, reorder, add or remove categories, turn a whole menu on or off, turn Busy Mode on or off, connect or disconnect a delivery app, add, change or remove team members, edit roles, or see billing. Owners and Admins can do all of these. Some of them can also be given to a custom role. Uploading photos, changing the plan and resetting passwords are the exceptions: only Owners and Admins can do those, and you cannot add them to a custom role.
What only the Owner can do.
Transfer ownership. Only the Owner can give ownership to someone else. An Admin does not see this option. The new owner must already be a member of your account. After the transfer, the previous Owner becomes an Admin.
Stay on the account as the Owner. The Owner cannot be removed and the Owner's role cannot be changed. Ownership has to be transferred first.
Good to know: your account needs an Owner to connect delivery platforms. Also, you cannot add a second Owner.
When Stream Support signs in to your account to help. Stream Support can sometimes sign in to your account to look at a problem with you. In these support sessions, the following are not possible: adding, editing or removing team members, changing a member's role, resetting a password, editing custom roles and transferring ownership. These changes have to be made by an Owner or Admin of your account (or the Owner, for ownership), or through the ownership recovery process below.
How to fix it
1. Check your role. Go to Settings > Members. Each person's role is listed there. Only Owners and Admins can add, edit, re-role or remove other members.
2. If you see "Action not allowed". This means your role does not include that action. Nothing was saved. Ask an Owner or Admin to change your role, or to add the permission to your custom role. If you are the Owner or an Admin and still see this message, contact Stream Support.
3. If you see "You cannot perform that action for selected locations". The change applies to locations you do not have access to. Save the change for "This location only". If you need a change at all locations, ask an Owner or Admin.
4. If the Owner is still with you and wants to hand over ownership. The Owner goes to Settings > Members, selects the new owner, chooses Transfer Ownership and confirms. See (FAQ) Transferring Organization Ownership. To add people and choose their role and locations, see How to Add Members to Locations.
5. If the Owner has left and nobody can transfer ownership. You cannot fix this yourself, because only the Owner can transfer ownership and only an existing member can add people. Contact Stream Support. We need written confirmation from a person with authority over the account, such as someone at your company or the partner that manages the account, saying exactly who should be the new Owner. If another Owner is already on the account, the previous Owner is changed to Admin, not removed.
Good to know: role changes work right away. Reload the page to see the updated buttons. Some buttons show for every role. If your role does not include the action, you see "Action not allowed" when you save.
