We Do Not Manage Toast Printing
To set up printing for online orders (or any order types) in Toast POS, you’ll use the Toast Web Backend to configure printer routing and device settings. Here’s a clear step-by-step guide:
Step-by-Step: Set Up Printing in Toast POS
1. Log in to Toast Web Backend
Go to Toast’s back-end login and sign in with your admin credentials.
2. Go to “Device Setup” → “Printers”
Navigate to: Devices > Printers
Click + Add Printer or select an existing printer
3. Choose the Printer Type
Common options:
Order Printer (for kitchen tickets)
Receipt Printer (for customer receipts)
Label Printer (for to-go labels)
Make sure the correct device is selected (e.g., Toast printer or 3rd party supported via Ethernet/USB).
4. Assign Printer to Order Types
Under the “Routing Rules” section:
Choose which Order Types (Delivery, Takeout, Dine-in, etc.) the printer should handle.
You can also assign Menu Groups or Revenue Centers.
✅ Example:
“Kitchen Printer 1” → Route Online Orders and Takeout
“Receipt Printer” → Route All order types (including Online)
5. Set Up Printer Groups
Go to: Devices > Printer Groups
Group items (e.g., Food, Drinks) to specific printers
Example:
Food → Kitchen printer
Drinks → Bar printer
6. Enable Auto-Printing for Online Orders
Go to: Takeout & Delivery > Online Ordering
Check that Auto-Fire Orders to Kitchen is enabled (this sends orders straight to the kitchen printer) - If auto-fire is enabled but printing delays persist, verify the integration settings for "Online Ordering Partners" in Toast and consult their documentation.
7. Save and Test
Save your routing and printer profile
Place a test order via Toast Online Ordering or third-party integration to ensure it prints correctly
🔧 Additional Notes:
Troubleshooting Delays
Confirm that "Auto-Fire Orders to Kitchen" settings are functioning correctly for all order types.
Check routing rules to ensure third-party orders are accounted for in the printer setup.
You can access Order Type Routing from:
Menu > Advanced Properties > Routing
Or from individual item setup if item-based routing is needed
